Lowden built only 50 of these Special Limited Edition (SLE) guitars, and this cedar-topped model is #46. Around 2001, Lowden and fingerstyle virtuoso Pierre Bensusan (a Lowden player since the 70s) developed a set of specifications for a Bensusan Signature Lowden. Contract issues kept Bensusan’s name off Lowden guitars until 2009, but Lowden went ahead with a run of 50 of these fingerstyle gems.

The O35c SLE is a variation on Lowden’s jumbo, or O model. The 35 series was Lowden’s premier line in 2001, with best-quality woods, fancier appointments (including inlayed backstrip), better tuners and other upgrades. The equivalent today is the 50 series. The SLE also included Lowden’s “fingerstyle neck” which widened from 1.75 at the nut to a generous 2 and 5/16 at the saddle, enabling fast, precise finger work. The ebony fingerstyle neck is bound with maple, and sports a lovely, curved fingerboard extension over the sound hole. The body of the SLE, while following the contours of the standard Lowden jumbo, is about ¼” less deep at the tail, for player comfort.

This model has some scuffs to the top of the sound board shown in the picture.  However at £2999 you have an opportunity to buy an incredibly rare Lowden which has aged beautifully at the price of one of their current standard models.
