Cort Gold Series Acoustic Guitars and Cort Gold Electro Acoustics have set the highest standards for higher mid price all solid wood acoustic guitars.
In the £600 - £1000 budget you have maybe 3 types to look out for.
Basically I see in the market the following categories of buyers..
1. Someone who has to have the brand their mates will recognize. Maybe they just need the brand they recognize for their own personal comfort - to know they have the "best" - but sadly this group of guitar buyers will almost always lose out. The reason being is the likes of Martin Guitars, Taylor Guitars, Fender Guitars, Ibanez and so on NEVER give you the best specification at the price and I can guarantee you the quality will be variable too - Taylor guitars however tend to be much more consistent quality wise but tonally and specification wise you'll be paying through the nose for the Made In America Price Tag - you will also be paying for a pile mass marketing and guitar player endorsements that they fork out for every year to keep their brand in the spotlight.
2. Other buyers like as much bang for their buck as possible. The Cort Gold is MADE for these players - an unbelievable specification that seems to go on forever - from stunning quality torrefied tops to the highest quality and versatile electronics to aesthetic embellishments which are so tastefully done, gloss and hardcase. The Gold has it all for the player that wants everything in as an affordable package as possible. I cannot recommend the Gold series high enough - even over the Faith guitars brand which historically ruled this position. Every aspect of the Cort is a step up from Faith guitars.
3. Remember however that in this price bracket less can be more - for some. I suppose this would include myself, so lets say for example you want to swap out the need for a hardcase - maybe even electronics - but you want something with next level character or back story? I am talking 100% hand made acoustics - all solid - can be purchased for under £1000 by the likes of Dowina, Auden, Eastman & Furch but you'll not get the same level of specification on paper as the Cort guitar.
Remember - Cort guitars are the largest manufacturer of guitars in the World and as such have the highest level of technology, skill and experience to produce high quality in volume. They are the masters! Cort guitars produce guitars for all the largest brand names like Fender, Ibanez and so on but you just cut out the costs of marketing and hype surrounding these brands.
