Eastman Wide Neck Mandolins

Eastman Wide Neck Mandolins

The standard MD305 has a nut width of approximately 27.8mm, while "wide neck" models measures 30.2mm. That is an increase of around 2.4mm — which may not sound much but in reality is nearly 9% wider.

On a mandolin, where eight strings are arranged in four closely spaced pairs, that is a meaningful difference. The wider nut allows more room between the string courses, which can help you fret notes cleanly without accidentally catching or muting a neighbouring pair.
