Best 12 String Acoustic Guitar Under £500?
It has to be the Lâg Sauvage Jumbo 12-String – Natural Character, Rich Voice
The Lâg Sauvage Jumbo 12-String is a wonderful example of how thoughtful design and natural materials can create something genuinely inspiring to play. If you are looking for the best 12 string acoustic guitar under £500, then this would be right at the top of my personal recommendations list.
The first thing you notice is the tone. The jumbo body gives it real presence — full, open and rich, with that natural shimmer that only a 12-string can produce. Strum a few chords and the sound just fills the room; it’s musical, balanced and beautifully layered without ever feeling harsh or overpowering.
The cutaway is a practical touch, giving easy access higher up the neck, while the Stage-Lâg preamp makes it completely ready for performance or recording. With simple EQ controls and an onboard tuner, it’s easy to get a clear, natural amplified sound that does justice to what you hear acoustically.

Visually, the Sauvage series has a lovely organic honesty. The rough-sawn finish gives a slightly raw, handmade feel, and the smoked eucalyptus back and sides add depth and warmth to the look as well as the tone. It feels earthy and authentic — not over-polished, but refined in all the right ways. An incredibly unique finish which gives this 12 string acoustic guitar a genuine boutique vibe.
Lâg’s use of FSC-certified BrankoWood and eco-friendly finishes is more than a marketing line; it’s part of what makes this range feel connected to nature. It’s a guitar that looks, feels, and sounds in tune with its materials.
Playability is smooth and surprisingly comfortable for a 12-string, with an inviting neck and well-set action. Everything about it encourages you to explore and enjoy.
A genuinely characterful instrument, the Sauvage J12CE offers all the fullness and sparkle you’d hope for, wrapped in a design that feels both natural and timeless.
nd sides make the guitar more controlled when in a plugged in situation.
Because the body is larger the headstock is far more balanced. 12 string guitars are notorious for their neck heavy feel but by having more body weight in the larger jumbo body this gives the overall feel of the LAG a very balanced feel indeed.
Stylistically? Just look at it?
So it looks beautiful - sounds fantastic both plugged in and acoustically and our setups will ensure this already stunning 12 string plays like a dream - set up to your personal specification.

Possibly the best active Piezo pickup without a microphone
I have the LR Baggs Element VTC on several of my guitars, which in my opinion is probably the best of its type currently on the market. The inbuilt compression sets it apart from others I've tried, and it does produce a fairly accurate tone of your instrument. It's certainly very lively and the only pedals I use with thus are the LR Baggs Session DI and their Align reverb unit, which kill off piezo 'quack' and add warmth.
Chris does a wonderful (and very speedy) job of installing this pickup, and I'd strongly recommend that you use his services rather than try a DIY job at home...drilling that big hole in the lower bout is no joke 🫣
The service from Richard’s Guitars was excellent. There was a long wait from order to delivery but I was kept informed throughout. The Octave Mandolin arrived and was ready to play. very pleased with my purchase.
