I am so incredibly excited to introduce you to an incredibly important guitar builder whose guitars I now have the good fortune to represent (Thank you for letting me be your UK representative - I cannot wait for Christmas 2022 :) )
Below - you will find some Q&A that will help you get to know Luigi Valenti and please do watch the videos at the bottom which include Daryll Brauns personal overview (He is a very well known Youtube reviewer who loves to get his hands on special guitars).
So here goes...
When did your guitar building journey begin?
I started being interested in Guitar Making al Luthiery in general while I was 20 and I was studying Physics at the University of Perugia.
The passion for the craft brought me to leave the University a few exams before the degree and fly to the UK where I got an apprenticeship at Crimson Guitars in Dorset in 2016 (Highly regarded UK Guitar Builder)
Physics? That sounds helpful in terms of guitar building?
It certainly showed me how many aspects of the laws and theorems I was studying could have been easily applied to guitars on many different layers of complexity and finesse.
You mentioned crimson Guitars. How did this go for you?
I started there as an apprentice in 2016 and sooner after I was in charge of the new production line that the company was launching. I also started and developed their original in house pickups
When was the first "Valenti" guitar born?
I returned to Italy in 2017 and began developing the designs that were to become the Nebula & Callisto models, and prototyped my first Valenti pickup set.
Whilst I could have just focused on building I wanted to further my knowledge in the academic sense so in 2019 I took a Masters degree in Engineering of Musical Instruments at the University of Ancona. This definitely helped me fine tune several aspects of my craft for Guitar Making in general.
From watching your video tour (shown below) its clear that maintaining your own personal connection with every single guitar is important to you - I can certainly relate to this feeling. (I can also vouch that its never better than when its kept tight and you can keep control over quality!) .
How are you coping with the incredible demand for what are generally described by leading press as your "works of art"?
In 2021, due to the constantly increasing amount of orders and requests, I was able to move from my original workshop to a new, bigger and more equipped facility allowing met to take care of a yearly production of 50 instruments,
Your reputation among some of the most highly regarded reviewers in the industry is clearly second to none and its incredible to witness the workmanship and dedication you apply to every guitar - even the literature that you provide with the guitar - incredible detail - as I say "jaw dropping"!
Does the logo have any significance beyond being really beautiful (which I think it genuinely is as far as guitar brand logos go! )
The Valenti Guitars logo is constituted by an Uruboro with a stylized Yin & Yang inside of it.
The Ying & Yang represents the balance between all the aspects that can be found on a Valenti Guitars' instrument: Aesthetics, Ergonomicity, Playability and Sound. Each one of the aforementioned aspects play a fundamental role; however, only when they work synergically together, do they make a world class musical instrument.
The Uroboro is the meaning of an Eternal Cyclic Renewal, which in this case is applied to the craft by the continuous studying of the traditional techniques (from classical instruments to modern ones) which are then integrated to our days and implemented with new processes and scientific methods, in search of constant improvement.
Luigi!! that's truly extraordinary. The two aspects of your logo are very poignant for me right this moment in my life physically, emotionally and in my business life!
Balance is something I have had to work hard to find and as you get older its something you realise is so vital for physical and mental wellbeing but also in terms of running a business - a healthy business is one with true balance. We live in a World where we are told growth = better and where being happy with "the now" is seen as stagnation. I genuinely believe people who seek a healthy status quo beyond what we are told is important will always find peace and happiness that those striving for a make believe "better place" will never find.
I have been studying "Autophagy" which believe it or not is the bodies' ability to recycle dead/wasting/poor quality cells in order to produce new fresh cells that will aid longevity and a healthy body. Also - as a business, I have spent my life removing dead/wasting/poor quality brands and replacing them with high quality brands that will provide me longevity and a healthy enjoyment of my work. So - your Uroboro is close to my heart!
Uroboro
"A gnostic and alchemical symbol that expresses the unity of all things, material and spiritual, which never disappear but perpetually change form in an eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation"
