If on a budget, consider a LAG

I changed my guitar, a Tanglewood TW15 HE out of necessity. It was a lovely guitar. However, with someone who suffers back issues, I needed to go to a smaller nut width, a 43 mm, to loosen tension in my left hand fingers.

I had in mind a guitar I wanted but it wasn't affordable with my budget. Not having many options for guitar shops in my part of the world, north Notts, I had seen adds and reviews for Richard's Guitars. I contacted them on chat, explained my issues about changing. Whilst they no longer traded in my desired guitar, I spent time chatting through options. LAG Tramontane 118s were mentioned never heard of them!!

Spent time looking at Richard's website at the LAGs and listening to some of the videos, and doing the same through YouTube. The details provided on Richard's website are thorough and give you a great understanding of the guitar. What also helped are the demonstrations and commentary Richard gives on video blogs of guitars.

As a place to consider purchasing your guitar. Well worth the effort to talk through and visit them.

The LAGT118ABCE-BRS that I purchased.

I spent time looking at and hearing various LAGs on videos and reviews of them. Some very interesting guitars on offer. However, in listening to them, I kept coming back to the T118 models. Not that sound quality through the internet is the best, it definitely gave me the impression that I needed to see, play and hear it and which Richard's gave me a range of different brands to compare it too when I went to the store. Being given time to yourself in a space without the comings and goings of other customers and having time to play and compare is definitely a positive experience at Richard's Guitars.

I did hope to see the black T118 but I started to like the look of the Brown Shadow which was the colour provided. The more I played and compared it to the others which included other LAG models, a Sauvage, and a parlor shaped model which I didn't really play much as I already have one in the style, an Eastman dreadnought, and a Washburn (?Jumbo?, which I did like), I eventually decided to go with the LAG, not just because of the nut width, but I also felt the difference with the auditorium size and the dreadnoughts. The auditorium is what I needed. The bevel also is a bonus for me. It was a snug fit.

I purchased it, left the guitar so they could set it up and received it a week later. It is easy to play on my left hand, comfortably snug in my right and the tonal quality is bright and the strings sustain clearly, which I didn't have on the TW15.

In the week or so that I've had it, I'm really glad to have chosen this particular model and in Shadow Brown: internet images don't do it justice.

In all the times that I've purchased a guitar, I've never had the level and quality service given by Richard's Guitars. Thank you to all the staff for making it a pleasurable experiencee to test and buy a guitar.

If you're on a budget, LAG should definitely be on your to try list. It was the first time I've heard of them.

This is also a genuine, personal and non-influenced review.

GREAT GUITAR !!! I AM VERY HAPPY !!!

GREAT GUITAR !!! I AM VERY HAPPY !!! A beautiful, luxurious guitar, very fine workmanship. It is obvious that it was created with a lot of love and professionalism! Thank you very much!

Hi Tanya!

AWESOME! Isn't it so beautiful? You know - I took photos of your guitar and I am not sure if I have put them online yet??? I have so many things to do in a day its just not possible to do everything I should! I think we have spoken online at the beginning of your enquiry - if so, I am so glad you appreciate the details of this guitar that I have been such a fan of for some years now. So comfortable too right? Love it. Anyway - Thank you for taking the time to post the review - and if you ever can get a photo of you with your guitar it would be lovely to see your face as I am trying to encourage my customers to do this - t helps me feel a little more connected and it would be nice to recognise you should you ever pop in - in person (Remember your 6 and 12 month check and reset are all available to you as part of the service). Bye!!!

The genius is in the set up.

Just lovely to deal with. Bought a relatively inexpensive guitar from them but they genuinely seemed care and get the the set up spot on..

Internet Purchase

I bought the guitar via the Internet. I know that's not the recommended way to do things but Lâg guitars have a good reputation, the model I bought sounded good on videos I'd seen and the free setup by Richards Guitars was far too tempting. I ordered it on Monday and it arrived on Wednesday of the following week. It plays beautifully. The tone is nice and rich, it has plenty of sustain and chimes like the church bells. It's made of sustainable wood, and built in an environmentally-friendly way.

Richards Guitars provided excellent service: their communication was faultless. I was asked how I would like the guitar to be set up prior to the work being carried out. It was despatched by DX who delivered it professionally and it arrived right in the centre of the delivery time slot.

I've been very impressed with every aspect of this purchase. Richards Guitars even planted a tree for me and removed a bottle from the ocean! They'd get 6 stars if I could award them. I'm a very happy customer.

LAG TRAMONTANE T118ASCE-BLK

I was lucky enough to receive this guitar as a gift from my girlfriend, it's a beautiful instrument, very comfortable, it feels and sounds amazing, it oozes quality and was perfectly set up by Richard's Guitars. I firmly believe guitars at this price point should include a gig bag, but that is a manufacturer issue. Highly recommended.

Wonderful guitar

Wonderful guitar, looks and sound beautiful. The Hyvib 2 takes it to a whole other level. Cannot recommend this guitar enough, I’ve had several other guitars including Gibson and Cole Clark this Lag is more enjoyable to play and hear than the others. I can’t stop picking it up and playing. Thank you everyone at Richard’s outstanding quality customer service, guitar setup was perfect.

Great service as a new beginner choosing a guitar, they selected a range of guitars to try at my leisure not time constraints no pressure they were available to help me choose. I bought a LAG parlour guitar exactly what I wanted.

A must for any guitarist to visit Richards guitars.

We were having a few days away in Stratford upon Avon so booked to visit Richard’s guitars. Easy to arrange and fabulous service from start to finish. So Lynn played with some selected guitars and while we did that we had her fender set up correctly as it was only a few months old but Lynn felt it wasn’t right and my god the difference is unbelievable. Where it was going out of tune constantly and had buzz fret It’s brilliant now. While there after trying different guitars we bought a Lag which was again professionally set up and sent to us a week later. Again brilliant service

Glossy Damage

Initially very pleased with the finish however just recently I had occasion to practice under LED lighting and it was then I discovered a significant amount of very thin scratches / cracking of the lacquer, not quite sure which. If they are scratches it looks like they have been caused by a plectrum and as I don’t use one it has dampened my impression somewhat. I have attempted to take photos but they fail to show the problem.

This Lag guitar is very good indeed

This Lag guitar is very good indeed, especially given that it is around the £600 price point; it sounds and plays better (to me), than a £2000 guitar in my possession, albeit not for much longer! It has a lovely tone, partly die to the cedar top, it projects very well and is tonally well balanced. If you're looking for a good guitar without having to pay a lot of money for it, I would thoroughly recommend a Lag.

LAG TRAMONTANE T88ACE LEFT HANDED

Read great reviews regarding Richard’s Guitars, and wanted the T88ACE lefty. Advised stack was sporadic but they managed to get one for me. Had to wait for it if course, but came and I am completely happy with the purchase, service, setup, and communication with them. A pleasure to deal with and would highly reccomend them to anyone. Told my friend about them and coincidentally, he had bought from them previously and was highly satisfied with them too. Thanks a million to all at Richard’s Guitars!!😊😊👍🏻👍🏻
