Richards Guitars - Simply Outstanding

Having bought guitars from Richards Guitars in the past and looking for a change and a really great guitar, I was so persuaded by Richard and his team (Jon and Jake) and their collective enthusiasm for Dowina and Furchs I decided to visit the shop to try them out. I have a very understanding wife who allowed the visit but her brief to me before I set out was that I could get a new guitar but only if it really excited me. Well, I am now poorer in monetary terms but with and incredible new Dowina Paduak GAC.

When I play even simple cords or riffs on the guitar, the way in which it projected and the way in which the guitar body resonated feels almost like it is reaching out to me to give an embracing hug; an incredible feeling.

Richards and his small team really know their stuff and only sell outstanding guitars matched by outstanding preparation and service. So if you are in the market for a top quality guitar but don't feel the need to follow the herd into over priced and over marketed 'popular' brands go the Richards Guitars and you won't be disappointed.

Superb guitar, beautifully built and with a wonderful tone.

The heat treated spruce top, and padauk back and sides, give this guitar some punch, and a slightly metallic edge to the tone. It never sounds harsh, but has a sweetness, warmth and great clarity to it.

This instrument is relatively loud for a Grand Auditorium and has a powerful, well-balanced tone. The bass is firm, without ever being boomy or overpowering, and this is beautifully balanced by the mids and trebles. String to string the tone is very even and projects superbly.

Whilst this guitar suits a wide range of styles and playing approaches, for my personal taste this guitar works best for finger style guitar. It might sound a little harsh if you like to really dig in when you flat pick you would need to try it and see. I play mainly with the flesh of my fingers and I find this works very well to bring out the beautiful, natural tone of the instrument.

This guitar also represents excellent value for money. It is difficult to see how you could find anything of similar quality which offers better value.

I had the opportunity of trying some other Dowina guitars whilst at Richards, and can attest to their excellent build quality, playability and tone which comfortably holds its own with the very best. These are highly accomplished instruments of great beauty.

You may of course prefer to purchase a guitar from a well known brand for whatever reason. But you will pay a significant premium for this, and would also miss out on the opportunity to experience some truly wonderful guitars built on a small scale by a team of top notch luthiers. Richard champions top quality builders who offer world class instruments at great value for money.

Richards Guitars also offers a superior level of personalised service at every stage of the process. The team are passionate, experienced and offer sound, impartial advice for the novice or the more experienced. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Do yourself a favour and check them out.
