Dovina Sol GAC

I recently purchsed a Dowina Sol GAC having actually ordered and paid for a more expensive guitar. However Richard contacted me to say these were due in, a similar spec and wonderful hand built guitars (it was actually slightly cheaper than the guitar I had ordered).

One thing to be aware of. Richards Guitars don't just ship orders out. You won't get delivery next day or even in a few days - but worth the wait. The set up and action is excellent, intonation spot on down the whole net. It arrived by courier well packed and almost in tune out of the box, I think 3 strings were a smidge out according to my tuner. The tunning pegs are excellent and the guitar strings settled in a couple of days.

Now this isn't a glossy guitar, the finish is very natural, more a satin finish. The pick guard can hardly be seen and looks like a shadow across the grain of the cedar top. The grain on the walnut back and sides are wonderful. The rosette I really like and it is quite ethnic. The cut away is practical but subtle. The ebony finger board is wonderful. Not the traditional comppetely black, but black with some yellow/orange marbling, giving it a unique character. The wonder full thing about wood and grain is each instrument has its own unique appearance and a one off.

The bindings are immaculate as is the whole build quality of this guitar. It is faultless. If it was a Martin, Taylor or Gibson you would be looking at another £1,000 to £1,500 to the list price of this guitar. Amazing value.

It has plenty of projection and the strings can ring forever. The Grand Auditorium version is great for strumming with a plectrum or finger style. A very versatile guitar to own.

Now all wood and handbuilt, wonderful wafts of fresh wood, it is a joy to own. It sounds great already - it will be a few years before it develops its true voice, but you know it will get better and better as the guitar gets played in.

Anyone looking for a really good accoustic should consider the Dowina range. Cheers Richard for pointing me in their direction.

Dowina Sol GAC

I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Richards new shop to try out some recommendations and personal choices discussed with Richard on his live chat prior to my visit. All of these were lovely guitars any of which I would have been happy to own. Whilst doing this Jon brought over another alternative to try as a flavour of something slightly different to what I was already trying. What a brilliant guy and suggestion. This turned out to be a cedar top Dowina Sol which is now at home with me as a prized possession. It is simply superb in every aspect and in my view an absolute bargain. It arrived excellently packaged and safe. The guitar, service and experience provided by Richard, Jon and everyone at Richards Guitars was simply a joy. My thanks and best wishes to all.
